ok, not really. we still use credit cards, thus dave would say we spend more than we should even though we pay them off every month. he has a point, but cash burns a hole in my pocket, and baby bear might eat it out of my wallet anyway, given the opportunity.... we really track our spending better this way. hubby even created a budget spreadsheet for himself.
i called the bank to get the payoff amount for our big vehicle. we decided it would be wise to just get rid of the payment, even though the % was pretty good. paying no interest is better than paying even just a little interest. our savings won't look very pretty, but we will be not have a $243 car payment anymore. happy halloween to us. not that halloween has anything to do with it, it just hppens to be the due date. that means the only debt left after this month will be our mortgage. i think i'm going to write this check, since the vehicle is actually financed with me listed first on the loan. it will make me feel rich to write a check that big... but then i'll feel broke again. at least the vehicle will be truly OURS!!!!!!
God has provided through some tighter times this year, we are so grateful.

Good for you! That's a huge accomplishment and won't that feel good.
Hopefully sometime next year I will be right there with you- with only a mortgage left to pay off. We've got my studen loan down to the single digit thousands now... so we're thinking mid-year next year we should be able to pay it off without it taking a huge chunk out of savings.
Annnd, I'm also right there with you on the credit card thing. I keep track of that and worry over using it a lot more than I do cash. Cash slips through my fingers like water, but I'm very cautious and less apt to use my credit card on little impulse things. So while I think D.R. is a wise man in most matters, I think his assessments are wrong in others.
i'm blessed to have a financially minded hubby who is very good at saving, budgeting, etc... sometimes he's a receipt nazi, but we wouldn't be where we are of he were more like me.

And one of these days, when we are ready to start a family of more than just the two of us, I'll have to pick your brain about some of the links you've got on your blog. It's been interesting to here the different opinions thus far from our various friends. They are each quite sure of their chosen philosophy. It's a little overwhelming thinking about what will happen if I choose something completely different from them. Anyway, it's nice to know there's someone out there who is thinking through a bunch of that stuff.

glad to see you here! the thing i have learned this past year is that i should have relaxed earlier on, and i should have listened to my mom a little more. but, with circumstances and my temperment as they were/are, things might not have been all that different. i look at pics from baby bear's first 2 months when she was so skinny, and i'm glad it didn't take me any longer to make my choice to do what i never thought i would do (bottle feed). i struggled with a lot of guilt because i know the medical facts, my mom nursed all 3 of us past age 1, and my sil nursed both of her girls until 1 1/2. even with awesome support, the nursing didn't work for us, and i truly believe part of it was from trying to implement even a flexible schedule too early on... even one advocated by a lactation specialist. (that boggles my mind...) i found some of the links through friends of crt (my sil) on aslan's child. i linked to them because i found them interesting and worthy of consideration, plus i wish i had read their side before our baby was born.
enjoy your time with just you and your dh. children are such a blessing, but i am so glad we waited and had a few years as just the two of us.
when God does give you kiddos, you will have such a beautiful environment in which to teach them about their Creator. the smokies just don't compare!
