Tackle It Tuesday
Tackle It Tuesday Meme

It's been a while.  I am not going to tackle these things today, but am posting the pics as a reminder of a couple of the bigger projects I want to tackle this Spring/Summer.

What are your favorite do it yourself landscape and garden sites?  This space has so much potential to be a retreat where we can read a book, sip a smoothie,  etc.

Another view of the swing area.

This bench was in our front yard, but the extra stroke of trim paint from the windows in addition to the need for TLC just got on my nerves.  It's probably going to happen before the swing retreat area.

****
My actual tackle list for today is much more mundane, for the most part:
1) wash, dry and put away dishes in the sink
2) take a shower
3) wash the sheets from Bear's bed and the guest bed
4) sweep and "shark" the floor- kitchen and downstairs, at least
5) the big one- fill out paperwork for Bear's Kindergarten registration and go to the open house tonight.

And apparently little mister who just sat on the potty but did nothing has now done something in his diaper.  Oh, joy.  So changing diapers is still on my tackle list.

Think Spring

It got colder again today.  A front came through last night and took away our warm Spring-like weather.  Nonetheless, I can't help but be encouraged by the renewal and new growth in my yard.

Little Buddy stepped on tulip #3.  Maybe it will grow and bloom next year.  I planted these a few weeks ago.

Last weeks yard project: white flowers are "candytuft",  I can't wait for the purple pansies to take off.  The carpet of creeeping phlox on the left is compliments of the previous owners.

Anyone know what this could be? I am guessing daisies or black eyed susans or something, I don't know.

These mini pansies, aka johnny jump ups, were growing in our grass, so I dug them up and put them in the flower bed.

mystery lillies... I hope they are pretty!

Aren't they pretty?
Now I just need to use them!!!!  (I do have 2 big yarn projects going, plus a couple of small things.)  I bought the ribbon intending to use them in scrapbooking or for clippies....

On second thought, I just realized that 4 of the skeins are leftovers from previously completed blankets made within the past 2 years.  Maybe I'm not just a collector after all!

Look closely.  Bear wanted to put her rose from our trip in the park with the tulips that came today.  The stem was not long enough.  So she set the bud vase next to the big vase so they could be together.

The hardest part about hubby's "new" job is the time it takes him away from home.  These arrived today, the first day of this week's absence.  They helped a little.

Decision made.

My sis got the tutu for Bear. It is SOOO cute! I am one of those people who is full of great ideas but usually lacks the follow through. SO I decided not to make the skirt myself. Well, when we had a notice stating that there was a package waiting Bear in the leasing office, and after the sweet glow of excitement on her face about having a package addressed to her, how could I make her wait over 2 weeks to open it? I was probably more excited to see it because I knew what was inside!

It turns out that the tutu works well with her gymnastics leotard. And a magic clothes hanger. ;)

Here she was, bouncing on the furniture immediately after opening:

Thanks, Bec and crew! Oh, and Miss Priss Tutus!

What rose are you today?

a sunny, yellow gold glow with a double bloom

a romantic, mysterious lavender hued "blue girl" with a sweet fragrance

bouquet of gold glows who had a little too much drink

My favorite of the 3 is the blue girl today.
But I feel more like the last pic, though I am probably closer to dehydration than water-log.
What color rose are you today? One of these or a different variety?

Tackle It Tuesday, weekend edition

It's been a while since I posted anything substantial for Tackle It Tuesday. Well, I'm so excited about the progress we made this weekend, that I cannot wait until Tuesday to post.

First, hubby posted some pics of some things we needed to sell on Craigslist:

SOLD!!!!

STILL AVAILABLE
I think a scammer tried to bait me with this post but I did not respond. This couch has a slipcover on it and a chair that matches what's underneath. I like to refer to THAT pattern is psychedelic candy-cane striped.

SOLD!!
(I TOLD hubby we should have posted it for more. Tech Mom made the slipcover and Dad made the frame. It has been through the entire family....
Alas, it has a new home because we are trying to make space.)

There are a couple of boy things, too...
a sub woofer and something I forgot the name of but goes with stereo stuff. Capacitor, maybe?

Next, we began the arduous process of going through our dressers and closets. It hasn't been done to this extent since, well, I'm almost too ashamed to say, but my pride at our progress overshadows the shame: since we moved in almost 6 years ago.

My side, the miracle. Hubby's is normally fairly neat, except for shoes sprawled all over

the floor- haven't seen that in a while

the donation pile and trash box

Hubby also took a few boxes of junk to some open dumpsters in the area.

I HAVE to thank our friends Ruth and Paul and their brother who works at chick-fil-a for the boxes! They collected them for my parents, but Dad made me take some, too.
They are coming in handy.

So the tackling has begun. And I can actually check a couple of things off the list!

Playing in the dirt.....

I might make a flower bed around the whole bay window before summer comes.
"blue girl" rose bush and spot where I planted an echinacea root.

same bush, last year:

.... and then there's the begininning of my butterfly slope... look carefully to find the butterfly bush in the distance.

gold-glow rose bush surrounded by glads and daffodils
same bush, last year:

mystery irises from Katrin, planted last Spring, waiting on first blooms

Southern winter

i wonder if we'll have more crocuses than this, or the rodents ate the rest? i knew i should have bought the ginormous bag of bulbs at costco...

my poor, confused daffodils think it's spring.
so far i have counted 16 of them peeking through the mulch.
(most without buds, yet)

I still haven't mailed out all our thank you notes for baby gifts, so I could not bring myself to get Christmas cards out. So, if you are waiting on a thank you note, please forgive me. :) And here's your Christmas card!

quest for gas

There's one type of gas that is far too prolific in our home. But the fuel shortage is what has our area going completely insane this weekend. I waited 15 minutes in line to top off my tank yesterday, as our other car is almost empty so hubby will drive the SUV to work until gas stations have supplies again. Here's a pic of the view I had from my spot on the road. I just happened to have my camera with me thanks to the baby shower:

If you live near Chattanooga, TN/North GA and need a photographer,
I highly recommend Dotson Studios!
